Early in 1916, a group of Tyrone Businessmen met and discussed the need for an organization devoted to community service, economic progress, and cultural growth. This led to the establishment of the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce, Incorporated on July 16, 1916. Revenue for the Chamber’s work is provided by membership dues, Business After Hours, and other fund-raisers. Membership enrollment currently stands at 128 members.

Mrs. Dorothy Derman was the long full-time secretary. Mrs. Phil Lusardi then served as the part-time secretary and later the Executive Director. Following the resignation of Mrs. Lusardi, Mrs. Bonnie Patton accepted the position of secretary on June 1, 1996 and was later promoted to Executive Director. The Chamber still currently employs Mrs. Patton.

Its accomplishments have been varied, interesting, and very productive. It is a motivating force behind the Main Street Program and the downtown Christmas lighting project. The Chamber now holds an Annual Golf Outing, a Business Expo, Business After Hours, Breakfasts with speakers, and the Annual Dinner, along with other services for their members.

The Chamber monthly newsletter TYRONE is published each month and distributed by The Daily Herald to the Tyrone residents.

The Chamber is located at 1004 Logan Avenue and can be reached at
